A fixed way to replace one tooth or several teeth in a row.
A missing or failing tooth can affect how you chew and how you feel about your smile. A single-tooth implant replaces one tooth with a titanium implant and a crown shaped and shaded to match your smile. A multi-tooth implant bridge uses two implants to support a custom bridge that spans several missing teeth in a row.
At Mill Plain Family Dental in Danbury, implant care is led on-site by Dr. Richard Lee, DDS. Your free consultation includes an exam, 3D imaging of your jaw, and a review of your options. If implants are not the right fit for you, Dr. Lee can also talk with you about a dental bridge or dental crown. Call us at (203) 743-9001 to get started.
The American Dental Association’s MouthHealthy site lists implants alongside bridges and dentures as ways to replace missing teeth, and Dr. Lee can walk you through which one fits.
A dental implant is a titanium screw that’s placed into your jawbone which serves as the foundation to replace a tooth or teeth.
There are 3 parts to a dental implant:

Not always. If you are missing several teeth in a row, two implants can sometimes support a custom bridge that spans the gap. Dr. Lee decides what fits your case after your exam and 3D imaging, and you can read more on our single-tooth implants and bridges page.
The cost depends on where the implant goes, how many teeth are involved, and whether you need extra steps such as a bone graft, so Dr. Lee gives you an estimate after your free consultation. We accept CareCredit, Proceed Finance, and Sunbit, offer in-house payment plans and 0% financing options, and take HSA and FSA payments. Insurance may cover part of your treatment. See our financing and dental insurance pages.
It depends on your bone, your gums, and your overall health. Gum disease needs to be treated first, and some patients need a bone graft. Dr. Lee reviews your medical history, examines your mouth, and uses 3D imaging at your free consultation to tell you what applies.
In some cases, yes. If your implant is stable enough, a temporary crown can sometimes be attached the same day, which is called immediate loading. It depends on your bone, the location of the implant, and your overall health, and Dr. Lee will tell you at your consultation.
We numb the area, and most patients tell us the procedure itself is comfortable. Some soreness, swelling, and bruising afterward are common, and we give you aftercare instructions to manage them. We offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. Learn more on our sedation dentistry page.
Care for it like a natural tooth. Brush twice a day, floss daily, keep up your checkups, and avoid habits like chewing hard objects. Implants can fail, and infection, poor hygiene, smoking, and certain medical conditions raise the risk, so following your aftercare instructions matters. Call us if you notice pain, swelling, or a loose implant.
Timelines vary with your bone and your treatment plan. Many patients wait several months for their implants to heal before the final crown or bridge is attached, and Dr. Lee will give you a schedule specific to you.
